HIRE A BROOKLYN WOODS GRADUATE

Brooklyn Woods graduates are skilled, credentialed and ready to work in the woodworking and fabrication fields. Our staff works closely with employers, providing appropriate candidates and continual support to both employers and graduates after a hire is made. We can provide you with multiple candidates for a single hire or meet your large-scale hiring needs. All Brooklyn Woods services are free of charge to trainees and employers.

PRE-SCREENED

Every Brooklyn Woods graduate completed a thorough application process that ensures they remain motivated and prepared for work. The admission process is competitive—about 80 individuals apply for the 12 slots in each of our five classes per year. Trainees must meet minimum math and reading level requirements and typically have some experience working with their hands prior to beginning our rigorous training curriculum.

TRAINED

Brooklyn Woods trainees complete seven weeks of full-time training and work closely with instructors who are professional woodworkers with decades of real world experience. Brooklyn Woods expects trainees to treat the program like a job: they must show up on time every day and demonstrate a positive attitude, a dedication to learn, and a desire to work in the field.

Brooklyn Woods graduates have:

  • The ability to safely operate tools and woodworking machinery such as drills, routers, biscuit joiner, and table saw
  • Basic experience working with both solid and man-made materials
  • Basic experience ripping and crosscutting, gluing up boards, edge banding, sanding by hand and with sanders
  • A strong grounding in math, measurement, and fractions
  • OSHA 30 safety training
  • Demonstrated soft skills including a strong work ethic, a desire to learn more, and a commitment to working in the profession
EXPERIENCED

In addition to recent graduates for entry-level positions, businesses can inquire about hiring individuals who have gained some experience working in the field. Brooklyn Woods operates a cabinet-making social venture business that builds high quality kitchen cabinets and bathroom vanities. All employees of Brooklyn Woods are graduates of our training program. By the time they graduate, these individuals gain invaluable manufacturing experience before going on to work for other businesses in the industry.
