Ready for a new career in skilled woodworking?

Brooklyn Woods is actively recruiting for our next training cycle!

  • Brooklyn Woods is a free 8-week training program followed by two years of job placement and career assistance
  • Learn the safe use and proper care of hand tools, power tools and state-of-the-art woodworking machinery
  • Learn shop production, wood technology, finishing techniques, cabinet installation, mechanical drawing and job search skills
  • Gain experience working on real jobs
To be eligible you must meet all of the following criteria:
  • Live in New York City & be legally eligible to work in the U.S.
  • 21 years or older
  • Able to pass an 8th grade level reading test and a 6th grade level math test
  • Be physically fit and able to lift 70lbs
  • Be unemployed, have a low income, or receive public assistance
Brooklyn Woods can accept applicants with a history of substance use who are clean for ninety days and in a counseling program.  Individuals with past criminal convictions are welcome to apply.

How to Apply
You must attend an orientation session where you will fill out an application, learn more about the program, tour the facility and take a reading and math test. Orientations are held every Wednesday at 10:00 AM sharp at Brooklyn Woods and last about three hours. Please note: no one is admitted after the start time.

Brooklyn Woods is located at 125 8th Street between 2nd Avenue and 3rd Avenue in Gowanus, Brooklyn. The closest subway stops are the 9th Street stop on the R line and the 4th Avenue/ 9th Street stop on the F and G lines. 

Please bring the following with you to orientation:
  • Proper identification such as a driver’s license
  • A resume
