Red Hook on the Road (RHOR) helps motivated New Yorkers start careers as commercial drivers and helps New York City companies find highly-qualified licensed drivers. RHOR maintains a consistently high pass rate (90% or higher) on the NYS commercial driver’s license road test. Since the program’s launch in 1995, RHOR has trained more than 1300 graduates and placed drivers with hundreds of companies.
RHOR drivers are pre-screened and tested (including for illegal substance use) before acceptance into the program. Each RHOR graduate has received at least 20 hours of behind-the-wheel instruction; has been trained in map reading, maneuvering in emergency situations and inclement weather, and night driving; and has completed the NYS Automobile Point Insurance Reduction Program (i.e. defensive driving). RHOR students are also trained in customer service, and soft skills such as communicating with supervisors.
